This document has three layers. The first captures the material changes of Charlottesville’s racist monuments from their inception to 2019. The second captures the material changes of other monuments both in the north and the south, and how they became platforms for protest as the Black Lives Matter movement developed. The last layer captures how the alt-right movement began coalition building on sites such as 4chan and 8chan, resulting in the deadly Charlottesville protests and counter-protests.
